Facilities Total shop/warehouse
area: 174,000 sq. ft The Avalon shop consists of Journeyman carpenters trained and certified through the Carpenters Local Union No. 626, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. In addition, all carpenters have been trained by Avalon Exhibits Inc. and have a minimum seniority of 7 years ranging to 19 years. The average carpenter experience at Avalon is over 9 years. All painting and finishing is completed in-house in a clean room environment. Avalon's painting and finishing department has over 19 years experience in closely matching design requirements – if it doesn’t exist, we will create it.
All Avalon supervisors have risen from the shop floor through to management and bring over 40 years of combined exhibit industry experience to our construction talent pool. They provide invaluable experience, in collaboration with Design and Engineering to achieve client expectations with cost-effective, practical strategies that maintain design integrity while bringing levels of modularity and standardization that deliver value in construction, shipping, setup and dismantling. Avalon’s reputation and relationship with the labor union enables us to manage our workforce to meet the changing demands of the client and trade show schedule. The entire Production and Logistics organization is available 24/7 through a monitored pager system and cell phones. Avalon's purchasing department deals with nearly 115 suppliers covering 39 product categories and services (thousands of unique items) – you name it, we’ve bought it or know where to get it. Examples include: Acrylic, Banners, Cable Systems, Carpet, Fabric, Furniture, Hardware, Laminate, Laser Cutting, Lighting, Metal work & finishing, Models, Powder coating, Glass, Signs, Truss and Welding. We demand and receive quick response, quality and value through our long-term supplier relationships. We look at every recurring process and event within the company with the expectation that it can be improved. In the shop and warehouse, we concentrate on information, material and product flows and constantly look for ways to improve construction techniques, materials, components, handling and storage, transportation, and so on. CI involvement is driven all the way through the organization and outside, by soliciting supplier assistance as well. We apply the processes of Lean Enterprise, using dedicated CI Events to identify waste and non value-added activity in our processes which is reduced or eliminated wherever possible. Safety is a key part of the Avalon Continuous Improvement initiative. We believe that a clean, well-organized business environment is not only a safer place to work, but also helps to identify unsafe conditions, which can then be more easily addressed. Safety goes beyond clean, and Avalon's safety strategy includes: monthly Safety Committee meetings, routine internal safety audits and participation in voluntary audits by state regulatory agencies to ensure standards of workplace maintenance. Adherence to Avalon’s safety policy is a condition of employment that protects our valued staff and protects our ability to perform.
